Stillness Sunday: Your Soul Craves Unhurried Moments

Most of us move at a pace our souls were never meant to sustain. We rush from one thing to the next—answering texts, checking emails, squeezing in errands—and then wonder why we feel anxious, disconnected, or spiritually dry.


But your soul doesn’t thrive on hurry. It longs for unhurried moments—the kind where you can breathe deeply, listen quietly, and actually notice that God is near.


We tend to ignore God’s command to rest one day a week. Our culture has become so hurry-focused that we’ve bought into the lie there isn’t time to simply stop. My very first lesson as a Christian was to learn what it means to just be.


In the beginning, my response was, “Be what?”—which was exactly the point God was making. It’s not about what. It’s not about doing something. Just be is about becoming comfortable in silence, in stillness, in the moments of nothingness. It’s about learning to create those moments on purpose, because it’s in the quiet that we hear Him loudest.

Stillness isn’t the absence of movement; it’s the presence of peace. It’s choosing to step out of the noise long enough to remember who you are and who He is.


Unlearning the Pace of Hurry

When life moves too fast, your body believes it’s in danger. The constant pressure to perform keeps your nervous system in a state of low-grade stress. That’s why slowing down isn’t just good for your mind—it’s healing for your body and grounding for your spirit.

When you pause, your body gets the message: I’m safe. Your brain calms, your breathing deepens, and your heart becomes a little more open to hearing from God.


The world around you will always shout for more—more doing, more proving, more producing. But peace doesn’t shout. It whispers. And you can only hear it when you slow down enough to listen.


Try This

  1. Pause between tasks: Don’t rush from one thing to the next. Before starting the next item on your list, stop and take three slow breaths.

  2. Find one quiet space: Step outside, close your eyes, and just listen. Notice how peace feels in your body—it’s gentler than you remember.

  3. Let God set the pace: Ask Him to show you what’s truly urgent and what can wait. The world won’t fall apart if you rest.


Inviting God

Ask God to help you learn what it means to just be—to rest without needing to produce, fix, or prove anything. Let Him meet you in the quiet moments where words aren’t needed. That’s where renewal begins.
