My Counseling Philosophy
I believe you have the answers you are looking for, but life and feelings and people got in the way. It is my role as your counselor to come alongside you and clear those things out of the way so that you can see internally what the solutions are and how to navigate life in a healthy manner.
A question that many have is, "How will I know when I don't need to come to counseling any longer?" Unfortunately I cannot give you a time line, but what I can give you is some indicators that I use to help guide us to the answer for you as an individual. Frequency will eventually begin to lessen as you are able to implement the things you are learning in your sessions out in everyday life. You will find yourself doing things like having better boundaries, managing your emotions instead of your emotions managing you, and being able to use your "wise mind" to guide you in decision making. How long this takes is what makes counseling individualized, but I can tell you that it will happen.
While there may be some that will be in counseling for a long time (many years even), that is not the case for everyone. In your first session, we will discuss the frequency I recommend based on the information you provide, but you will also have the final say in terms of frequency. There are many factors to consider, including financial, that will determine how long a person is in therapy. I always strive to let you, the client, lead as you know yourself and your needs best. And, together, we will create a plan to help counseling be a successful experience for you.
I'm so proud of you for taking this step towards healing and setting your future self up for success!
