Mindful Monday: Who Are You Beyond Your Titles?

Do you know who you are if none of your titles existed? Titles like daughter, friend, worker, mom, or wife—what if they were gone entirely? What would remain?

Years ago, I asked a friend that very question. Through tears, she whispered, “Lost. I am lost.” I remember blurting out, “I’m so proud of you! I’m excited for you!” She looked at me bewildered—how could being lost be something to celebrate? But here’s the thing: most people float through life without even realizing they’re lost. At least my friend knew. And in that awareness, she began the journey to discover who she truly is and what God wants her to understand: that she is His child. She is His daughter.

Knowing we are God’s children changes everything. Titles come and go, but our identity in God is permanent. If your worth is wrapped up in being a mom, a wife, a worker, or a friend, life can feel devastating when those roles are challenged—estranged children, the death of a spouse, or losing a job. But when your identity is rooted in God, you endure well. Your worth, your value, and your identity remain intact, no matter the external circumstances.

Try This:

1.       Reflect on your life roles and titles. What do you identify with most?

2.       Imagine those titles not existing at all. Who are you at your core?

3.       Journal or pray, asking God to reveal your identity beyond the roles, titles, and expectations you carry.

Inviting God In:

God is the source of your true identity. Even when life shifts or titles change, He remains your anchor. Pause and ask Him to help you see yourself as He sees you—cherished, valuable, and whole.
